Three Musketeers, All for One and One for All

The Jack Daniels Family consist of three premium products: Gentleman Jack, Jack Daniels Black Label, and Jack Daniels Single Barrel. What Tower employees discovered on their trip to Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee was that each of the products is exactly the same when casked and stored in the warehouses. So how can they all start exactly alike and end up so different? The expansion of the whiskey in the warehouse depends on the placement of the barrels in the warehouse as the expansion of the liquid into the charred oak varies with the temperature.

The lower barrels are cooler and pickup less color and flavor. Many of these barrels are selected for Gentleman Jack and then go through charcoal mellowing a second time for an even smoother and sweeter flavor. At the top of the warehouse, the greatest expansion occurs and some of these barrels are hand selected to produce Jack Daniels Single Barrel. The rest of the barrels are used to produce the consistent and well known flavor of Jack Daniels Black Label by mingling the darker and lighter whiskeys to achieve the standard color and flavor we have come to love.

Our employees thoroughly enjoyed the detail tour and a shopping spree at the Lynchburg Country Store. The tour included production of the sugar maple charcoal that is used for the mellowing, the original Jack Daniels building, the stills, fermentation tanks, mellowing room, sample warehouse, bottling room and the room dedicated to customers who buy a single barrel. The most inexpensive way to purchase Jack Daniels Single Barrel is to get a group of friends together and buy an entire barrel (about 240 bottles). Besides the Jack, there are many other bonuses for these special customers.
